Our volunteers are selfless and dedicated angels in disguise.
They come rain or shine to visit and sit with our bedbound residents; they rise early in the morning to cook and serve breakfast to our residents at the destitute home; they visit our families in distress regularly, to let them know they are not alone.
For the financial year ended 31 March 2015, more than 1,300 individuals and 120 groups volunteered with MWS.
At Bethany Methodist Nursing Home, we celebrated our volunteers’ giving last Saturday 5 December.
Our resident vocalist Ms Moo donned her gloves for the occasion and sang for our volunteers.
Exercise group Dancing Hands volunteer Ms Thang Cheong Fong leads our residents and volunteers in hand exercises choreographed to help the elderly strengthen their limbs and mobility.
She was also given the 5-years Long Service Award by the National Council of Social Services.
One of our youngest volunteers Ms Melissa Thong started supporting Bethany Methodist Nursing Home when it first started in 2001, raising funds for vans in her school. Two years ago, she walked in and volunteered as a befriender, visiting our residents every week.
“It’s the simple things from the residents that keep me going. They would wait for me to come and even take note of what time I usually visit,” she said.
If you'd like to help MWS beneficiaries like the residents of BMNH, you can give towards their rehabilitation.
