MWS Launches New Programme to Strengthen Families

COVID-19 has forced families to be together for long hours, exacerbating tensions that might have lurked beneath the surface. The past 2 years have seen rising numbers of divorce applications and reports of family violence.

In fact, there has been a spike in the number of people in Singapore seeking counselling. By the time clients show up, a small issue may have snowballed into a major crisis. Can counselling be a form of preventive care rather than a last resort?

MWS FAM@FSC’s counselling rooms are designed to be cosy and child-centric. Materials such as storybooks, cards and games are curated to help facilitate counselling for families with children.

The newest addition to the MWS family, the Strengthening Families Programme@Family Service Centre at Methodist Welfare Services (MWS FAM@FSC), aims to provide that preventive support.

Launched on 1 Jul 2022, MWS FAM@FSC supports couples facing marital challenges and families showing early signs of stress through marriage/divorce support, and family counselling. The initiative is led by the Ministry of Social and Family Development. Learn more here.
