Methodist Welfare Services (MWS) and Methodist Girls’ School (MGS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) where MWS will be the anchor social service agency partner for the Intergenerational Learning (IGL) Centre located on its campus.

Touted as the first-of-its-kind initiative, the IGL Centre was launched on 25 July 2023 in conjunction with MGS’ 136th Founder’s Day celebrations.

The IGL programme aims to facilitate student-senior collaborations to bridge the generational divide. Such intergenerational engagement fosters in both the seniors and youth “a greater sense of purpose, mutual understanding and respect,” said Ms Fong Mee Sim, Acting CEO of MWS.

The initiative builds on the school’s past experience in engaging the elderly in the community, including hosting activities like kite-flying, archery and tea appreciation for seniors at MWS Active Ageing Centres.

In another recent collaboration, seniors from MWS Wesley Active Ageing Centre – Jalan Berseh joined hands with students from schools like MGS to co-create an artwork titled ‘One Moon, Two Worlds’ at the Gallery Wellness Festival 2023, organised by National Gallery Singapore.

Initiatives like these foster knowledge sharing and meaningful collaboration to promote intergenerational relationships, and MWS looks forward to more of such partnerships to come.
