Parkour, Rock-climbing Keep MWS Senior Beneficiaries Active

Seniors from MWS Wesley Active Ageing Centre – Jalan Berseh scaling the heights at Climb Central at Kallang Wave Mall

When we think of ‘parkour’ and ‘rock-climbing’, we would hardly imagine seniors engaging in these activities. Yet, that is exactly what the seniors from MWS Wesley Active Ageing Centre – Jalan Berseh have been up to lately.

As part of MWS’ active ageing programme, 13 seniors were introduced to modified parkour and rock-climbing after they had built their strength, flexibility and agility over time.

MWS Senior Physiotherapist, Elsa Ang, creatively employed the natural landscape and architecture around the Centre for her sessions. From pathways and steps to communal playgrounds, seniors decked out in safety gear could be seen scaling age-appropriate obstacles under close supervision.

Despite most of these seniors being well over 70 years old, they have not only seen significant improvements in their strength and health, but also boosted confidence in self-care and a new perspective on ageing. What seemed impossible and daunting became a fun reality and an opportunity for growth and adventure!
